Mass Effect, the hit rpg/third person shooter/ all around awesome game produced by the geniuses at Bioware impressed a lot of people, not the least of which was me. I’m not impressed, however, with the man who managed to option the movie rights.

There’s not doubt about it, superhero movies are absolutely huge right now. This summer alone we’re seeing Ironman, Hulk, Batman, and Hellboy all up on the big screen. Yet as I sit back and watch the success of superheroes movies I can’t help but wonder why DC isn’t taking full of advantage of the situation.

In 1999 Warner Brothers was devising a plan for the next Batman film. Ever since the critical and finical failure of 1997’s Batman and Robin, Warner’s had to lay low from the franchise for a while. But now enough time had a passed and they were ready to once again bring The Caped Crusader to the big screen. Several ideas were being thrown around but perhaps the most interesting involved a live action Batman Beyond adaptation.

While watching TV the other day I was shocked when I saw a commercial advertising the release of Atonement on DVD. My shock came from the fact it felt like I just seen the movie in theaters. Later in the day I was surprised again when I found out that I Am Legend, a film that feels like it came out last week, has also been released on DVD. It was at that moment I had an epiphany: the speed of movie home releases has greatly changed.
